The Pure Nexus Project aims at bringing stability and new features to Google Nexus and Pixel tablets and smartphones. The idea is to keep “Google’s vision in line” and provide users with a stable ROM with minimal bugs and tested features.

The team behind Pure Nexus announced a new update that brings header options and a one-handed mode to Android Nougat users. The latest update is aimed at Android 7.1.1 Nougat users on Nexus and Pixel phones, although some versions can be ported to other devices as well.

According to a Reddit thread, the new update brings a feature that allows users to change the header background and adjust other elements as well. Users can change the number of rows in portrait and landscape mode, add a custom header image and enable the notification panel header image or pick a header provider. Shadow effect can also be added to the header image and there’s a feature for browsing installed headers.

One-handed mode and a bunch of other features

Moving on, one-handed mode allows users to navigate through their phone by using just one hand. This makes it easier to browse through various apps and even reply to text messages. One-handed mode is a feature found in multiple third-party launchers or even custom ROMs, just like Pure Nexus.

The changelog for the new update also brings double tap to sleep feature on navbar and the ability to hide VPN and data saver icon in the statusbar icons. Moreover, users can expose the quick settings tuner switch bar for themers, settings switch bar for themers and settings dashboard category padding for themers.

Multiple icons for apps have been updated to a circle design, one of the main characteristics of Android Nougat and an element that sets this OS version aside from previous Android mobile versions. Users should keep in mind, though, that flashing custom ROMs on phones could result in loss of warranty.
