Microsoft is putting a lot of effort into getting the Outlook email client right on all platforms, and both Android and iOS versions receive updates on a regular basis.

Most recently, Microsoft released an Outlook for Android update to introduce a couple of new features, one of which gives users more control over their notifications.

First and foremost, this latest update increases the app version number to 3.0.73, so make sure you are running at least this release to get the updated features. To check the version, launch the Outlook app on your Android device > Menu icon > Settings > Help & feedback > Scroll down.

The first improvement in this update concerns your favorite contacts.

Beginning with this version, you can star a specific contact (or add them to your list of favorites) by simply opening contact details. This makes the whole process a bit more straightforward, especially if you have multiple contacts with similar names and you can’t tell which one is which.

New notification options for Outlook.com accounts

And second of all, Outlook for Android now comes with more notification settings specifically aimed at favorite contacts. In other words, you can now configure the email client to only show notifications when favorite people email you, so you won’t be disturbed when messages from other contacts land in your inbox.

Microsoft says these features are available for all Outlook.com accounts, and they will soon start rolling out to Office 365 customers shortly.

In addition to these new features, Outlook for Android also gets more under-the-hood refinements and other bug fixes, so the general performance of the app should be slightly better now.

If you haven’t received the new version on your Android device, you can download the Microsoft Outlook APK from Softpedia to install this latest build and try out the updated features.
