Fresh details on Lamar Odom’s condition after last week’s drug overdose have emerged online, and they are very encouraging, considering the initial prognosis. The ex-NBA star and estranged husband of Khloe Kardashian is expected to survive and make a recovery.

The bad news is that he will need months of therapy, and even with all this work done, he might still be left with some permanent damage to his body.

Lamar Odom will survive

Both TMZ and People Magazine have confirmation from sources at the Las Vegas hospital Odom is being treated that he will survive the accidental drug overdose. However, because of the extent of damage he sustained from the drugs, he will never be himself again.

Odom was rushed to the hospital last Tuesday, after he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel. He had opiates and cocaine in his system, along “with every other drug imaginable,” after a 5-day binge at the establishment.

Several of his vital organs were failing, including his heart and kidneys, and he suffered ischemic strokes that doctors feared would leave him with brain damage.

At the time he was moved to the Las Vegas hospital from the local one, the prognosis was very dire, with several insiders even saying that he was not expected to make it. If he did, they said, he would probably be in a very, very bad shape.

Khloe Kardashian will be there for Lamar throughout recovery

Then, on Friday morning, Odom opened his eyes and spoke to his estranged wife, Khloe, who had rushed to be by his side within hours of hearing of what happened.

He’s been improving since, but he is not yet out of the woods, since he still has renal failure. Speech and movement are minimal, but enough to tell doctors that he did not sustain neurological damage or, if he did, that it’s not significant.

He’s looking at many months of rehab and therapy, but the good news, according to both media outlets, is that he has to look forward to Khloe being right there by his side, helping him along.

“[She] won't leave his side. She wants to be there so that whenever he opens his eyes, he sees her,” a source tells People.

Another insider vouches for TMZ that Khloe will put everything in her life second so she can help Lamar make a good recovery, the best possible under the circumstances.
