14 DAY TRIAL // Reports on Lamar Odom’s condition after last week’s near-fatal drug overdose made it sound as if he was on the road to a miraculous recovery, but if that was ever the case, it seems he suffered a major setback. Some hours ago, he underwent 2 emergency surgeries on his chest, it has emerged.
The interventions have taken a toll on his already fragile mental state, with doctors deciding to ban all visitors from his room with the exception of his wife Khloe Kardashian, TMZ reports.
Lamar Odom and the aftermath of the drug OD
Odom was hospitalized in a coma after he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, after ingesting a large quantity of all kinds of drugs. He suffered several ischemic strokes and had multiple-organ failure, and very small chances of surviving.
Khloe, who filed for divorce from him in December 2013 but was still legally his wife (she’s since asked a judge to throw out the case and had her wish granted), rushed to be by his side, and it is said her presence there did Lamar a world of good: he woke up from the coma and didn’t show any signs of brain damage from the strokes.
Moreover, all the organs that were failing, including his lungs and heart, were returning to their normal functions, but he was still on dialysis because his kidneys were “shot.”
A few days ago, he was transferred to a hospital in Los Angeles, where Khloe had brought more specialists to look into his case.
He was said to be on a transplant list, but all in all, it sounded like he would eventually be ok.
Things take a turn for the worse
And then this happened: Lamar went under the knife for 2 “emergency” surgeries.
“We're told the procedures involved chest issues, but we do not know if it's connected to his lungs or heart. Our sources say the surgeries have put Lamar in ‘a fragile mental state.’ We're told he's emotional and at times, very upset,” TMZ reports.
Because he has a lot on his plate right now, doctors have urged visitors to give him time and space, so there will be no more visiting hours for a while.
Lamar once said that he had no other family but the Kardashians, whom he lost when Khloe divorced him, but in reality, he has 2 surviving children with his ex Liza Morales. They and Morales are no longer allowed by his bedside, as the only one who can still visit him is Khloe, who, as his wife, is making all the medical decisions for him.
