Japanese company Kyocera is well known in the United States where its mid-range smartphones are available for purchase at various carriers. However, the latest handset launched by Kyocera is aimed exclusively at the Japanese market.

The new DIGNO rafre is a high-end device that ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, but this isn't the phone's main selling point.

According to Kyocera, its new smartphone will not only work with wet hands, but users can also cleanse it with soap and water. Yes, that's right, if you think your Kyocera DIGNO rafre is too filthy for your hands, then you can wash it like there's no tomorrow.

The smartphone comes with a large display that's protected by Asahi Glass DragonTrail X glass, which protects it from casual scratches or accidental drops.

Self-healing back cover and strong display glass

The back cover of the Kyocera DIGNO rafre is made from a “dynamic plastic” that self-heals minor scratches, so the device does seem to be protected on both sides.

Kyocera also claims that the smartphone is protected from hot water, so you can use that to wash away all impurities.

Another piece of information revealed by Kyocera is that the DIGNO rafre comes with Smart Sonic receiver that is supposed to pass sound through the user's connective tissue.

It's also worth mentioning that the smartphone features 4G LTE and support for Japan's WiMAX 2+ networks. As mentioned earlier, you shouldn't expect this smartphone to make the jump to other countries, at least not anytime soon.

However, customers in Japan will be pleased to know Kyocera DIGNO rafre will be available via Japanese carrier AU from December 11. The smartphone costs $465 outright and comes in three color versions: Blue, Pink and White.
