14 DAY TRIAL // We reported earlier that the first Alpha releases of the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system are now available for download and testing, as announced by Canonical's Adam Conrad.
While Ubuntu itself is not part of the Alpha 1 releases for Wily Werewolf, users can download and test opt-in flavors like Kubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin, and Ubuntu Cloud.
Kubuntu 15.10 Alpha 1 is here with the next-generation KDE Plasma 5.3 desktop environment, which has been enabled by default for Wily Werewolf and optimized to offer users a smoother experience. Additionally, it also includes the KDE Applications 15.04.1 software collection, LibreOffice 4.4 office suite, and Mozilla Firefox 38.0 web browser.
"Kubuntu comes with KDE Applications 15.04 containing all your favourite apps from KDE. This is the 15.04.1 update with bugfixes and translation updates. Several applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 but those which aren't should fit in seamlessly," read the release notes.
There are several known issues in this release
Being an Alpha release, this version comes with several known, unresolved issues, which will be fixed in the next development snapshots. Among these, we can mention problems with use_libarchive_for_zip_files, install errors with the kde-config-telepathy-accounts package, as well as a crash in the Apport-kde package that occurs when attempting to report bugs.
Moreover, the kubuntu_langpack_desktop_files.diff file needs to be for .desktop gettext support, the desktop folderview needs to be added during the first boot for OEM installations, and it is not possible to change the user's password via the KDE's Accounts KConfig Module (KCM) because kdepasswd is missing.
