Now that the final release of the Krita 3.0 digital painting software has debuted for our personal computers, the time has come for the project's development team to concentrate their efforts on the first point release.

Yes, that's right, we're talking about Krita 3.0.1, which is expected to land in a final, production-ready state on September 5, 2016. Development has already started, and it looks like a log of bugs reported by users since the Krita 3.0 release have been smashed, such as some memory leaks with various graphics cards and crashes with cheap tablets.

"Because of unforeseen circumstances, we had to rejig our release schedule, there was no release last week. Still, we wanted to bring you a foretaste of some of the goodies that are going to be in the 3.0.1 release, which is now planned for September 5th," reads the announcement.

Export to video clips or animated GIFs is WIP

Besides the numerous bug fixes, Krita 3.0.1 also promises some new features, such as the ability to export your work to either animated GIFs or video clips, which is currently work in progress. Soft-proofing support will also be implemented in the first point release of Krita 3.0, along with several other goodies that are yet to be revealed as part of the next development builds.

The first Alpha development builds of the Krita 3.0.1 release have been made available for public testing, and those who want to get an early taste of what's coming can download the binary images for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X & macOS, as well as Microsoft Windows operating systems right now via our website. Please try to keep in mind, though, that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for use in production environments.
