Kodi's Martijn Kaijser announced the availability of the first Release Candidate (RC) build of the upcoming point release of the Kodi 17 "Krypton" open-source media center.

Kodi 17.1 "Krypton" will be released in the coming weeks, and it promises a bunch of improvements, in particular for the new Estuary and Estouchy skins. The first RC is out for testing and includes several improvements for the PVR (Private Video Recorder) feature, an updated Chorus web-based interface, and better EDL skipping.

It also looks like there's a new limiter on random songs that prevents huge libraries to consume a lot of system memory, and it's again possible to mark add-ons as broken when they're updated with the "Broken" flag. The song smartplaylist was also improved, as well as the handling of the analog stick.

"This is the Release Candidate for our upcoming bugfix release v17.1 'Krypton' which contains our continuous effort to further improve the v17 release. Our team will certainly try to tackle as much of the reported problems as possible with the limited resources we have," reads the release announcement.

RTMP inputstream add-on now included for Windows systems

Among other improvements that have been implemented in this first Release Candidate build of Kodi 17.1 "Krypton," we can mention better plugin performance when building the content list and better keyboard mapping during button mapping. An RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) inputstream add-on is also included for Windows systems.

As mentioned, Kodi 17.1 is the first point release to the major Kodi 17 "Krypton" stable series, which probably many of you are already using on their computers, but early adopters can get a taste of the upcoming improvements of Kodi 17.1 if they download the Release Candidate 1 version from our website. Please note that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for use on production systems.
