14 DAY TRIAL // Two weeks ago, Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, after a near-fatal drug overdose. He was in a coma with a very bleak prognosis, but he’s been showing considerable signs of improvement in the past few days.
Within hours of his health crisis, estranged wife Khloe Kardashian rushed to be by his side, even vowing she would not be doing any media to promote her new book until he was better. It seems that the time has come because Khloe is breaking her silence for an interview with People Magazine.
Calling off the divorce was a practical decision
A short while after he woke up from the coma, Khloe arranged to have Lamar moved to a hospital in Los Angeles, where she could watch over him more easily. She also called off the divorce she filed for in December 2013, which prompted a lot of talk online about how she was taking him back.
That was never up for discussion, she tells the celebrity publication.
“There are too many other important things, too many medical things. It’s not even in our brains thinking about us as a couple or having a relationship right now,” Khloe says. “I loved him always, and I will always love him. I don’t believe love is fickle. I believe when you love someone, you are allowed to love from afar. You don’t have to be with that person in order to love him.”
If she’s still his wife, she can make certain medical decisions for him, and she can also have access to his room, should things take a turn for the worse.
Khloe will be there for Lamar during the recovery
Khloe and Lamar’s marriage hit a rough patch in 2011, just 2 years after they had tied the knot. Rumors claim that this is also when he started using drugs more heavily, turning a deaf ear on her pleas to seek help.
Things deteriorated, and she finally filed for divorce in December 2013, citing irreconcilable differences. However, she dragged the proceedings on and stayed in touch with Lamar whenever he needed her, so when he was rushed to the hospital, she was the first to arrive by his side.
Getting there as fast as she could became the most important thing in the world, she tells the magazine. Seeing him wake up from the coma lifted a great weight off her shoulders, but she won’t sugar-coat the truth: Lamar is awake but he’s not even half down the road to recovery.
Said road will be long and difficult, and Khloe says, he will have to want to be on it. If that’s a decision he makes, she will be there to support him, like she always said she would.
