Users report issues that appear all of a sudden

Microsoft has already promised to ship more updates for the Surface Book to improve performance of the laptop and fix bugs, and it turns out that the company has more issues to look after in the next patch.

A number of users have reported occasional freezes of the mouse and keyboard when working on the Surface Book for a longer period of time and even though the company has tried to address the problem in the latest update, it appears that the bug still exists today.

There doesn’t seem to be a pattern right now, but according to users’ complaints posted on the company’s Community forums, the freezes occur when using the laptop for more than a couple of hours.

Mouse and keyboard dead, touch input still working

Here’s how one of the users experiencing this behavior detailed the bug:

“Today is my first day where i have worked about 6 hours on this new machine. The keyboard and mouse has locked up 4 times where i had to reboot the machine to get it working again.  Last night it froze two times and today it froze 4 times. The onscreen keyboard would work but that is worthless when you're actually working. I did turn off Bluetooth to disable the pen and the surface mouse - and will continue to monitor BUT this is pretty disappointing.”

Microsoft has not yet offered a workaround, but it suggested trying a force shutdown of the device in order to reset Bluetooth connections. To perform this, users must press and hold the volume up and the power button until the Surface logo shows up.

Other users, however, claim that this makes no difference and the touch input is the only one that remains available and maintaining control of the device. Microsoft is likely to have another attempt at fixing this bug in the next update, which will most likely arrive in January.
