Windows Hello is Microsoft’s big bet for a world without passwords, and in the last few years, the company has been pushing harder and harder to provide users with more hardware in this regard.

Kensington is now joining this long-term strategy as well with its very own fingerprint reader certified for Windows Hello, thus making it easier for users to authenticate into their Windows 10 computers without entering a password.

The VeriMark Desktop Fingerprint Key is powered via USB and is compatible with Windows Hello, Windows Hello for Business, and a series of Microsoft services such as Office 365, Azure, and Outlook.

Kensington promises end-to-end security and the ability to store up to 10 fingerprints with FIDO U2F-certified and FIDO2 WebAuthn-compatible features.

“Match-in-Sensor fingerprint technology protects unsecured fingerprint data by storing data in the sensor and only transferring an encrypted match. Exceeds industry standards for False Rejection Rate (FRR 2%) and False Acceptance Rate (FAR 0.001%),” the company explains in an announcement.

Available for just $75 in the United States

The device is available with a two-year warranty and can be purchased for $75 right from Kensington.

“The VeriMark Desktop Fingerprint Key, which features a long 3.9-foot USB cable enabling placement virtually anywhere on the desktop, is a versatile biometric security solution that supports single-factor (passwordless), dual-factor, multi-factor, and Tap-and-Go authentication. The TAA-compliant device, which combines superior biometric performance and 360-degree readability with anti-spoofing technology, can be deployed in the enterprise to support cybersecurity measures consistent with (but not limited to) privacy laws and regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA),” the company explains.

Needless to say, the new fingerprint works with Windows 10 and should come with plug-and-play installation.
