Only new smartphones will be powered by Windows 10 Mobile

Despite the general belief that all Windows Phone handsets available on the market will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile after Microsoft releases the new operating system, there's at least one company that won't be offering the update as many would have expected.

According to WMPU, UK-based handset maker Kazam confirmed that its Windows Phone handsets would not receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade.

On the bright side, all of Kazam's future smartphones powered by Microsoft's OS will run the Windows 10 Mobile platform.

Even though we should appreciate that the company is being fair about any future updates for its Windows Phone handsets, this situation begs the question: who would now buy Kazam's Windows Phones knowing they won't be upgraded to the latest version of Microsoft's OS?

Since Kazam is specialized in affordable Android smartphones, the company's finances might not be affected that much, especially considering that Windows Phones don't sell all that well in the UK.

New Windows 10 Mobile devices might be released later this year

However, it appears that Kazam has a strong relationship with Microsoft and will not drop Windows Phone. Also, the company is probably relying on its future smartphones that will be powered by the new Windows 10 Mobile operating system.

“We have a strong on-going relationship with Microsoft and always looking for new opportunities to bring relevant products to market,” explains Kazam in a statement for WMPU.

So, while now it wouldn't be a good time to buy a Kazam smartphone powered by Windows Phone, the company will definitely be back to the market with new devices powered by Windows 10 Mobile, as soon as Microsoft makes it available.

Speaking of which, the Redmond company is expected to launch Windows 10 Mobile as early as September, along with two of its high-end smartphones codenamed Cityman and Talkman. This means we're just one month away from new Windows Phone products.
