Concept of Pokemon Go running on HoloLens

Microsoft’s HoloLens is one of the most innovative devices of this decade (at least until now), and if you mix it up with Pokemon Go, the latest Internet phenomenon, the result can be nothing but awesome.

This is what a group of HoloLens developers have tried and managed to do recently, after hearing Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella himself saying that Pokemon Go would fit the HoloLens quite nicely.

You can see the result at the end of the article, but for the record, it’s still a concept for the time being and has no connection to Niantic/Nintendo, so it’s not by any means confirmation that Pokemon Go for HoloLens is on its way. But judging from how awesome it seems to be, there’s no reason for this not to happen in the near future.

“We were actually amazed how easy it is to launch an app for this device and create and optimize the mechanics and interaction,” David Robustelli, Head of Digital at CapitolaVR, the company behind this demo, is quoted as saying. “The build was created in Unity with the HoloLens SDK.”

Still no Pokemon on Windows phones

In the meantime, Pokemon Go continues to be forbidden land for Windows phone users, as Niantic is fully focused on Android and iOS and doesn’t seem to have any plan to bring the game on Microsoft’s platform.

Windows Phone users have already petitioned the company to port the game, and that shouldn’t be too difficult, given the fact that Microsoft already provides a bridge and the necessary solutions to bring iOS apps and games on Windows 10, but Niantic remains tight-lipped on any such project for the time being.

For the moment, however, there’s absolutely no way for Windows users to play Pokemon Go, and unfortunately, some have already started considering a switch to Android or iOS, given the fact that Windows is more and more often left behind when it comes to apps and games like this one.
