And of course, this isn’t necessarily such a big surprise

Many have criticized Apple for a series of controversial decisions, such as the removal of the headphone jack and the introduction of the notch, but sooner or later, pretty much the entire industry embraced the same ideas on their phones, more or less agreeing with the direction adopted by the Cupertino-based tech giant.

Last year, Apple made a similar controversial choice when it decided to no longer include a charger with new iPhones. Many accused the company it’s trying to make some extra bucks by selling such accessories separately, while Apple itself explained most iPhone users already own a charger and offering another one in the box doesn’t necessarily align with the company’s efforts to protect the environment.

Despite the initial criticism, more and more companies eventually embraced the same idea, including long-time rival Samsung. New phones sold by the South Korean company no longer come with a charger in the box, though in the case of Android devices, the whole thing is much more convenient given they use the universal USB Type-C connector.

No charger with the Pixel 6

And now, it’s Google’s turn to go in the same direction, as the company has recently confirmed in a statement for The Verge that its future Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro would no longer include a charger in the box.

In other words, you’ll have to buy a charger separately if you don’t have one already, but given it’s USB-C we’re talking about here, this really shouldn’t be such a big problem.

Google explains that by giving up on this accessory, it can now make the box of the Pixel 6 smaller, and therefore make the entire product as a whole more environmentally friendly.

Right now, the Pixel charger costs $35, so it’ll be interesting to see if Google offers a discount when the Pixel 6 goes live.
