BlackBerry Priv is already available for pre-order in three countries, Canada, United States and United Kingdom, but the availability of the smartphone is likely to expand to additional territories in the next couple of weeks.

According to BlackBerry's CEO, John Chen, the Priv is “the solution for smartphone users who are learning daily of the lack of privacy they have on their current devices. PRIV will be the answer for former BlackBerry users who miss the physical keyboard but want more apps.”

In order to make it secure, BlackBerry had to make a lot of under-the-hood changes to Android, as well as include some of its privacy services and security features that turned the Canadian company into one of the most trusted makers of secure hardware and software in the world.

Furthermore, Chen highlights the fact that BlackBerry devices are used by some of the most powerful people in the world including US President Barack Obama, UK Prime Minister David Cameron, and German Prime Minister Angela Merkel.

You can't put a price on privacy, security

The Priv wouldn't have seen the light of day if the Canadian company couldn't make it secure enough, but according to Chen, BlackBerry's engineers have done it, hence the smartphone is now available for pre-purchase.

With BlackBerry Priv, the Canadian company plans to push its handset business on the plus side, and since the smartphone is supposed to respond to current, and prospective, users who need choice, innovation, security, privacy and security, it has every chance of selling well.

Obviously, there's the matter of price, but some would say that you can't put a price on privacy and security, so there will be plenty of customers that will pay the outright price for the Priv.

Speaking of which, BlackBerry Priv is now available for pre-order in the US for $700 and for $900 CAD in Canada. Also, customers in the UK can purchase the smartphone for £560.
