A note was found at the scene, cops suspect overdose

Actor Jim Carrey is in mourning: his on-and-off girlfriend Cathriona White has committed suicide. Her body was found some hours ago, at her Sherman Oaks, California home by two of her friends, Good Morning America reports.

Cops found pills and a note on the scene, so they suspect suicide by overdose. TMZ says that the note was addressed to Carrey and referenced their recent split.

Breakup probably played a part

Carrey and White met in 2012 and dated for a few months before breaking it off. They were seen together again in May this year, and the relationship continued until September 24.

Up until that point, Carrey continued to mention her on social media, so there’s the assumption that he was quite smitten with her to go public like that. Then, on September 24, Cathriona announced that she was signing off Twitter, saying that she hoped she had made a difference in the lives of her loved ones.

Her post sounded like a definitive goodbye and it turned out to be just that: this is Cathriona’s last public message, and there is speculation that she had probably decided already that she was going to take her own life.

TMZ says that she and Carrey broke up for the second time that day, so the split colored every decision she made afterwards.

Jim Carrey is heartbroken

In a statement to the media, the comedian confirms his girlfriend’s passing in a touching message that highlights her sensibility, her warmth and kindness, all of which made her too delicate for this world.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” Jim Carrey says. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

As of the time of writing, Carrey has not said anything about the suicide on his social media accounts, but considering he released the statement above, that’s probably all he will say on the topic.
