Jedi: Fallen Order was just announced by Electronic Arts, and it’s being developed by none other than Respawn Entertainment.

The announcement that a new Star Wars game called Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the few exciting surprises from the Electronic Arts presentation at E3 2018. It was really unexpected, especially since last we heard about a Star Wars game was a couple of years ago. Back then it was headed by the now-defunct Visceral Entertainment.

Now, let’s not confuse apple and oranges. While Electronic Arts does have the rights to the Stars Wars universe, the latest announcement from the publisher has nothing to do with the existing games. It’s not a bad thing; in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Getting out of a rut

One of the problems with putting out new games on a yearly basis is that people tend to become numb to fresh content. The same can be said about the latest Star Wars Battlefield titles. It’s too much of a good thing. And if we also count the problems that arose after the release of the most recent titles in the series, with the loot boxes debacle, it’s easy to see why the Star Wars Universe might need a break.

And this is where the Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment comes into play. Respawn is responsible for the excellent Titanfall series, and since the new game promises a third-person single-player experience, fans are excited.

Little is known about the game, with the exception of the premise. You will get to play as a padawan that survives the slaughter at the end of the Revenge of the Sith, and that’s pretty much it.

We only know that it’s scheduled to be released during the holidays, in 2019, and it’s most likely going to be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
