14 DAY TRIAL // With Windows 10, Microsoft is working to bring all its devices in sync, and the upcoming Anniversary Update is an important step towards this goal because it brings improvements that unify all platforms.
Universal apps are currently at the heart of Microsoft’s efforts, and as we get closer to the unveiling of the Anniversary Update in July, more information emerges on how this work is advancing.
Reddit user peterthepancakeeater has managed to install a number of Windows 10 universal apps on his Xbox One console and get them on the dashboard just like on a PC’s Start screen, and although the discovery took place accidentally, it’s very clear that very soon everyone will be able to do it.
In a post today, he explains that only some apps are working for the moment, including CC Player Pro, Perfect Movies, and Perfect Tube, but there’s no doubt that soon the list will include many more items.
Not yet running, but installing fine
It appears that, for the moment, the apps fail to run, although they do install correctly, according to the original post on reddit.
“I've just installed an app called CC Player Pro on my laptop (wanted to try it cause it is currently free as a part of MyAppFree deal), my xboxone was on at the time and I got a popup saying the app is ready... the app won't run (it is getting stuck on loading screen), but clearly MS is working on bringing UWP apps to the new environment,” the user reveals, adding that he was running one of the latest preview builds of Windows 10, as well as the latest build for Xbox One too.
If you want to try this out yourself, all you have to do is to be logged in with the same account on both devices and running the latest preview builds and then install one of the aforementioned apps on Windows 10. The app should automatically show up on the Xbox dashboard too, although keep in mind that, for the time being, it cannot launch.
