You better be careful with those protective covers on the glossy iPhone because they could lead to more damage

Apple hasn’t said a single thing in its September 7 press conference about the problems that buyers could have with the glossy Jet Black iPhone 7, but instead the company bragged about this particular model several times, explaining that it’s quite a state-of-the-art piece of technology.

One of the things that Apple proudly praised is the way the Jet Black finish was obtained, as it’s all the result of a nine-step anodization and polishing process that you won’t find on any other smartphone out there.

And yet, here’s something that you certainly didn’t see coming. It appears that the iPhone and the regulatory labels on the back of the glossy iPhone 7 are peeling off when a protective skin is being removed.

Hard cases are better choices

MacRumors writes that when removing a skin from the Jet Black iPhone 7, the back labels are automatically transferred to the plastic cover. The labels, however, do not come off completely, but only seem to get a little bit faded, with no visible damage at first glance.

One of the users who observed the problem provided more details on what exactly is happening, but it’s not yet clear if this is a widespread issue or not.

“The writing actually came off onto the clear Slickwraps just like pulling silly Putty off of a newspaper comic strip. If you're one of the people hoping to keep their phone in brand new out of the box condition this might cause a problem for you. I don't know if the writing came off because the wrap is sticky or because it was a wet install meaning getting your phone wet then drying the phone could lead to the writing rubbing off,” he said according to the aforementioned source.

The Jet Black iPhone is also prone to scratches, so while using a protective skin on the back might seem like a good idea, a hard case might actually be a much better option because it wouldn’t affect labels.
