Report points to substantial weight increase for new iPhone

iPhone XS Max will be not only the iPhone coming with the largest screen ever but also the heaviest model in history if a new report is accurate.

Apple will take the wraps off three different iPhone models in just a few hours, including an iPhone X successor, a 6.1-inch LCD configuration, and a Plus-sized upgraded iPhone X.

Despite being the size of a typical Plus model, the so-called iPhone XS Max would offer increased screen estate thanks to the edge-to-edge design that basically shrinks bezels to the minimum.

iPhone XS Max could thus come with a 6.5-inch OLED display and have nearly the same dimensions as the iPhone 8 Plus, and some sources claim it could even be a little bit smaller.

Larger battery maybe?

But when it comes to the weight, a report from 9to5mac and citing sources with knowledge of the matter indicates that the iPhone XS Max will also be the heaviest iPhone ever. It may tip the scale at 7.34 ounces (that’s about 208 grams), up from 7.13 ounces (202 grams) on the iPhone 8 Plus.

The difference may not seem any significant on paper, and at the same time, it can also point to more welcome upgrades coming to this model.

Bigger weight means more technology, and in many cases, it could be a sign that what Apple wants to do is actually increase the battery capacity. Without a doubt, a 6.5-inch device needs a very capable battery to offer decent performance, and there’s a chance that iPhone XS Max will indeed feature upgrades in this department.

iPhone XS Max will also be the most expensive model in the entire lineup, with pricing expected to go well beyond the $1,000 threshold. The base model is expected to cost at least $999, while the top-of-the-range version with 512GB could be $200 to $300 more expensive.
