One of the biggest changes on the iPhone X is the removal of the home button, as the device features an edge-to-edge display similar to the one on the Samsung Galaxy S8, with the exception of the notch at the top of the screen.

As a result, a home button is no longer being offered, which means that Apple had to redesign all features that were assigned to this hardware in order to work at least as smoothly on a bezel-less display.

And as it turns out, the app switching feature that was previously available with the home button now works quite flawlessly with a gesture, as you can see for yourselves in the video below.

On older iPhone models and on the iPhone 8, jumping from one app to another could be made by simply double-clicking the home button and then swiping between thumbnails to select a certain running app. On the iPhone X, swiping right and left on the bottom of the screen will do pretty much the same thing, though you’ll thus be able to quickly jump to the next running app.

More gestures coming to the iPhone X

In this video, the user actually enables a slightly different gesture that involves swiping a little bit up and then right, but you can stick to whatever version works better for you.

Of course, this won’t be the only gesture available on the iPhone X, and the device will come with a tutorial displayed the first time you set it up to make sure that each user knows how to make the most of the iPhone without a home button.

Pre-orders for the iPhone X will begin on Friday, while the first units will be shipped on November 3. Word has it that supply will be very constrained, so it remains to be seen how many people will actually be able to secure an anniversary iPhone on day one.
