Apple’s new model, the most successful iPhone in a long time

There are many Apple critics out there claiming the iPhone X is hard to find these days because of the constrained stock, but new figures keep coming in to confirm that this is just one of the factors, as strong demand continues to have a huge contribution to limited availability.

Data provided by Localytics, for example, reveals that the iPhone X leads a chart analyzing device activations during the Thanksgiving weekend with no less than 47 percent of all activations. This means that nearly half of the smartphones that were turned on for the very first time between Black Friday and Cyber Monday were the iPhone X, despite the criticism and despite the price starting at $999 for the base model.

The good news for the Android world is that the Google Pixel 2 was pretty close with 45 percent of all activations during the said weekend, while Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 was also there with 44 percent.

Again, the performance of Pixel 2 deserves all the praises, as Google’s latest model had to deal with an avalanche of criticism following bug reports that were more or less accurate.

iPhone 8 not so successful

On the other hand, not all Apple’s models performed well during the Thanksgiving weekend, with iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus far behind with just 21 percent and 16 percent, respectively.

Localytics shows that iPhone X is the most successful iPhone in a long time, with the iPhone 6S, for example, accounting for only 36 percent of all device activations during the 2015 Black Friday weekend. The iPhone 7 did even worse with a score of just 13 percent, while iPhone 7 Plus was only at 1 percent.

“With three new smartphones launched this year (iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus), it’s fascinating to observe the dynamics of which devices and price points are most attractive. Apple’s big bet on the iPhone X - it’s most expensive model to date - seems to be paying off, as reflected by the 47% lift in new activations over the Thanksgiving weekend,” Localytics says.

Apple hasn’t provided any sales figures for the iPhone X just yet, but the company is now said to be working on aligning production with demand, which means we’ll soon get a better look at how the new model is selling.
