New-generation iPhone SE expected in 2024

The demise of the iPhone mini has made the iPhone SE pretty much the only way to go if you’re interested in a smaller iPhone.

But as it turns out, this is likely to change in the coming years, as Apple is already planning to fit the iPhone SE with a larger screen.

That’s right, the iPhone SE is growing bigger, and according to a report from MacRumors citing Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young, the next-generation model will be increased to 6.1 inches.

However, the iPhone SE 4 won’t use the same approach as the company’s premium models. It will instead stick with an LCD panel and a notch at the top of the screen, therefore serving as a more affordable alternative to the more expensive devices.

At this point, however, it’s not yet clear if Apple plans to equip the upcoming device with Face ID (which would obviously be integrated into the notch) but this is very likely anyway, especially as a 6.1-inch display would essentially represent the end of Touch ID.

Apple will still offer biometric authentication, so there’s a very good chance that Face ID would also make its way to the iPhone SE.

On the other hand, people familiar with the matter have previously suggested that Apple could change the approach on the iPhone SE and release a new Touch ID version that would be integrated into the side button. It remains to be seen if this is the case, but between this new Touch ID version and Face ID, the latter has bigger chances to come to fruition.

iPhone SE 4 is expected to see daylight in 2024, so Apple still has enough time to figure out everything. By the time the iPhone SE 4 gets the go-ahead, however, the more expensive models should come with more premium capabilities, therefore keeping the price high and turning the SE into the cheapest alternative.
