Analyst claims Apple planning a new naming approach

The first new iPhone that will see the daylight this year is expected to be the new-generation iPhone SE, which according to Apple’s previous announcements, should go live in March or April.

While most people have previously referred to this model as the iPhone SE 3, analyst Ross Young explains the device will actually launch as iPhone SE+ 5G.

Clearly, this is something rather unusual for Apple, especially because no other device in its lineup comes with the 5G tag in their names. All new iPhones already support 5G.

At the same time, Apple has never used the + symbol in the names of its phones, and it actually called the iPhones “Plus” to indicate the larger screen size.

4.7-inch display

Young has also reiterated something that makes sense and which has already been confirmed by several other sources: this new iPhone SE will use a 4.7-inch display.

Most likely, the device will continue to look just like the current model, which in its turn is inspired by the original iPhone 8. So the new iPhone SE, no matter the name it’ll end up using, will stick with the old-school iPhone design that doesn’t have a notch but boasts Touch ID and a notch.

At some level, this makes sense, especially because the iPhone SE will remain the only small iPhone in Apple’s lineup. The company is getting ready to kill off the iPhone mini, so unless customers will be ready to go for at least a 6.1-inch screen, the 4.7-inch model will be the only option.

Apple has obviously remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the iPhone Se, so take all the new tidbits with a healthy pinch of salt until the official unveiling takes place later the next spring.
