Apple is expected to unveil a new iPhone SE later today, and once again, the purpose of this model is to represent a more affordable alternative to the premium devices typically launching in the fall.

Furthermore, the device will come in a smaller form factor with a 4.7-inch display, without a notch and sporting a home button with an integrated Touch ID sensor.

All of these make the iPhone SE a rather affordable product as compared to its larger siblings, and this is why analysts believe the device could go specifically after first-time iPhone buyers.

In other words, the iPhone SE could convince more people to get an iPhone, and this means some Android phone owners could also make the switch to Apple’s device.

Launch later today

Speaking for Reuters, CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino says it’s essential for Apple to keep the current price tag of the iPhone SE unchanged if it wants the device to attract more first-time buyers.

“It could potentially provide upside to our unit iPhone estimate for 2022 if they keep that price point unchanged. The iPhone SE really caters well to a lot of first-time buyers on the iPhone ecosystem that may be younger individuals, where their parents are going out there buying that device,  the analyst explains.

The iPhone SE 2022 will be focused mostly on hardware upgrades, as the device will continue to look like the current model, whose design is also based on the one of the iPhone 8.

Apple will install a new Bionic chip, as well as 5G capabilities and new cameras, though given the current form factor, the device will stick with a single-camera setup. The pre-order program should theoretically kick off on Friday, while the shipping is expected to begin next week.
