Cheaper iPhone won’t be all about cost-saving, leak shows

Apple’s 2018 iPhone trio is expected to include a more affordable 6.1-inch LCD version, and while the Cupertino-based firm may come down to a series of cost-saving measures to reduce the price, it looks like the camera won’t be so severely hit as originally thought.

A new alleged leak coming via SlashLeaks claims to reveal the camera on the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, and if it’s real, then Apple is planning several upgrades over the single-lens setup on the iPhone 8.

First and foremost, one way to lower the manufacturing cost of this particular iPhone model, and therefore the price that you have to pay when buying it, is replacing the dual-camera configuration found on the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus with a single-lens shooter.

Several colors, glossy finish

While it was originally believed that Apple could stick with the iPhone 8 camera module and focus mostly on software improvements, this leak suggests that a bigger camera may actually be used on the cheaper iPhone coming this September. The two-tone flash is also placed much lower than on the iPhone 8, though it’s not clear why this change was needed.

Also, the leak seems to indicate that this affordable iPhone would come with a glossy rear case, possibly made of glass or plastic with a more exquisite finish. Previously, people familiar with Apple’s plans said that replacing glass with plastic was one of the cost-saving measures we mentioned earlier.

This iPhone model is expected to be sold in a wide variety of colors, including blue, green, and yellow, and if this leak is legit, then they might come with a glossy finish as well.

The device could hit the shelves at approximately $699, so it won’t be necessarily a truly affordable iPhone. It will, however, be specifically aimed at those who wouldn’t be willing to spend some $1,000 on a new iPhone.
