The home button was so much better, he says

We’ve known for a while that United States President Donald Trump is a huge Apple fanboy, so it’s no surprise that every time he tweets (which to be honest happens waaaay too often), he turns to his iPhone for the whole thing.

More recently, Trump posted a message that suggests he just got a new iPhone. And by the looks of things, he just switched from an older-generation model to the modern iPhones with Face ID and the notch, an approach which Trump says isn’t a big fan of.

“To Tim: The Button on the iPhone was FAR better than the Swipe!” he posted late last week.

Apple replaced the home button with a gesture-based navigation system in 2017 when it rolled out iPhone X, and its successors, iPhone XS and iPhone 11 generations, come with the same approach.

New iPhone with home button just around the corner

Because of the notch and Face ID authentication system, new iPhones no longer boast a button, therefore the fingerprint sensor has been removed as well. Because a physical button is no longer available, users need to swipe up to go to the home screen, and Donald Trump doesn’t think this is the best way to go in terms of usability.

While Trump doesn’t say what iPhone he just got, I’m pretty sure he picked an iPhone 11 Pro or Pro Max, as the older models are no longer available for purchase from the Apple Store.

On the other hand, those still dreaming about having a home button their iPhones should hold on to their purchase for a few more months. Apple is expected to roll out a new-generation iPhone SE in the first months of 2020, and the device will be based on the iPhone 8, with similar look and features very likely.

The device will lack Face ID and a notch and will use the same Touch ID and home button combo that Donald Trump seems to love, all for just $399, according to people familiar with the matter.
