14 DAY TRIAL // Existing leaks have shown that the iPhone 7 is very likely to be similar in design with the current 6s generation, but it turns out that Apple is aiming for a much bigger overhaul under the hood.
And KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo now believes that one of these upgrades that Apple is working on concerns the amount of RAM memory that’ll be offered on the iPhone 7.
Apple launched the iPhone 6s last September with a major RAM upgrade, doubling the memory previously available on the standard iPhone 6 from 1GB to 2GB. And according to the analyst, the same trend will be maintained with the iPhone 7, which is expected to debut with 3GB of RAM.
This is definitely a welcome improvement for the iPhone, not only because more memory is needed to cope with today’s more demanding tasks, but also because most high-end devices running Android are already offering 4GB of RAM. Apple needs to keep close to its competitors, and increasing the amount of RAM on the iPhone 7 is one way to do that.
Dual camera on the iPhone 7 Plus
Although the previous photo leaks have indicated that Apple was planning only small changes to the iPhone camera, the analyst believes that the company is actually working to bring a dual camera on the iPhone 7 Plus.
The 5.5-inch iPhone will be the only one to feature this upgrade and the KGI analyst claims that dual camera module production will record a boost in the coming months in anticipation of growing demand when Apple takes the wraps off the new model.
“We estimate total shipments of iPhone dual-camera module from Sony (JP) and LG Innotek (KR-TW) at 20- 30mn units in 2016F, sufficient to cover demand from the new 5.5-inch iPhone. Due to constraints of form factor design, we think optical zoom capability may be limited. Also, the result of Linx algorithm performance is uncertain. As such, we believe market response to the performance of iPhone dual-camera remains to be seen,” he was quoted as saying by 9to5mac.
Other than that, the previous claims regarding iPhone 7 features appear to be valid, so expect an LCD screen, new chips, an all-purpose Lightning connector and a design sans an audio jack.
