John Legere impressed with the early success of iPhone 7

iPhone 7 pre-orders have kicked off on Friday and are currently underway at the time of publishing this article, but with Apple refusing to provide us with statistics for the first-weekend sales, it’s hard to tell whether the new model is more successful than its predecessors or not.

T-Mobile Chief Executive John Legere claims that, at least for his company, the iPhone 7 is generating impressive demand and pre-orders have already recorded a new high this year.

iPhone 7 pre-orders are four times bigger than those of the iPhone 6, Legere said on Periscope, even though the model launched in 2014 was considered one the most successful iPhones in history - according to Apple, first-weekend sales topped 10 million in the case of the iPhone 6 and only the 6s managed to overtake this achievement with 13 million units the next year.

“The first four days of the iPhone 7 launch are by far the biggest ever for T-Mobile,” Legere explained, adding that the black version of the phone is currently the most successful.

He added that he ordered the Jet Black version because “I’m quite excited about it,” despite the fact that it’s prone to scratches and damages due to its shiny case.

Sold out? Not so fast

What’s important to note, however, is that these preliminary figures concern T-Mobile only and aren’t valid for all retailers in the United States. Apple says that the iPhone 7 is already sold out and pushed shipping dates to October, or even November in some cases, but nobody can tell for sure how many units the company made available at first when starting getting orders.

Right now, if you want to get an iPhone on launch day, the best option is to head over to a local retail store, not necessarily Apple’s, as there are bigger chances to find one without the need for waiting any other extra day. Shipments will kick off on Friday, and it’ll be interesting to watch how the iPhone 7 performs in its first weekend of availability.
