Apple has turned the iPhone 6 into a vintage product

Launched back in 2014, the iPhone 6 was a major hit. It was the first model to come with a Plus model, and without a doubt, many people loved it thanks to the increased screen estate.

Surprisingly, the iPhone 6 is still in use today, even though it no longer received updates since 2018. The debut of iOS 13 in 2019 marked the end of the iPhone 6 in terms of software updates, and now Apple is enforcing the end of the device as far as the hardware part is concerned as well.

The iPhone 6 is now considered a vintage product at Apple, so the company is no longer providing any parts and repairs for this device.

“Owners of iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, or Apple TV products may obtain service and parts from Apple service providers, including Apple Retail Stores and Independent Repair Providers, for a minimum of 5 years from when Apple last distributed the product for sale,” Apple explains.

“Service and parts may be obtained for longer, as required by law or for up to 7 years, subject to parts availability. Additionally, Mac notebooks may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability.”

Sticking with an iPhone 6 doesn’t make much sense anyway. Given the device runs an old version of iOS, most apps are no longer getting updates either – the most recent version of iOS, which started rolling out in September, requires an iPhone 8 and newer, so you can imagine how outdated an iPhone 6 can be.

Needless to say, many people would just stick with their iPhone 6 for now, but tech-savvy customers have zero reasons to continue using a device that’s no longer supported.
