Repairs and services would no longer be offered

Apple has recently launched the iPhone 14 generation, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that everybody is ready to upgrade.

Some people are sticking with their old iPhones, and although it may sound incredible, the iPhone 5c continues to be a popular model among those who are holding on to upgrades.

However, all the people who are still using an iPhone 5c would soon have another reason to upgrade to a newer iPhone, as Apple is getting ready to mark the device as obsolete. MacRumors says the company has started sending out memos to inform that the change would come into effect on November 1.

iPhone 5c is already considered a vintage model, and now that it’ll enter the obsolete stage, it would no longer receive any repairs and services.

Time to upgrade to a newer iPhone

Apple has a detailed description of what an obsolete product means:

“Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago. Monster-branded Beats products are considered obsolete regardless of when they were purchased,” Apple says.

“Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, with the sole exception of Mac notebooks that are eligible for an additional battery-only repair period. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. Apple discontinues hardware service for certain technologically-obsolete products. Your device is supported by ongoing OS updates and backed by a network of more than 5,000 Apple-certified repair locations that you can count on if something unexpected happens.”

Needless to say, upgrading from an iPhone 5c to an iPhone 14 would be quite a jump, as the new-generation models come with lots of improvements and new capabilities, not to mention the larger screens. Of course, the iPhone 5c’s resale value is zero, so getting an iPhone 14 is obviously an expensive switch.
