Subtle design changes are coming to the new iPhone

Apple is projected to take the wraps off the iPhone 15 generation at some point in September, and as it happens every year, lots of details make their way online as we approach this highly anticipated event.

This time, well-known leaker @UniverseIce came up with a series of CADs showing the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the most notable change is probably the smaller camera bump.

And when I say notable, I don’t necessarily mean it, as the difference between the old and new devices is almost impossible to notice by just comparing the two models side by side.

However, the camera bump on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to be about 1mm smaller than the one on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I guess this is a good improvement. Every tiny spot is important, as Apple thus gets additional space inside the phone for other improvements.

Another change coming to the iPhone 15 Ultra (if this is indeed the name that Apple plans to use for the Pro Max) is a narrower bezel. However, the leaker claims it’s also thicker.

The device will use a titanium allow middle frame, but this isn’t necessarily a surprise, as we’ve known for a while that this was a change scheduled to happen on the iPhone 15. And last but not least, there’s also the Type-C port, which Apple will finally bring on its smartphone to replace the proprietary Lightning connector.

The transition to USB-C was enforced the European Union, as device makers selling products on the continent are no longer allowed to fit smartphones with any other port option beginning in 2024. Apple seems prepared to do it faster, so the iPhone 15 will use USB-C across the entire range.
