FaceTime calls and live streaming to be improved

Apple has so far remained tight-lipped on everything related to its upcoming iPhone 14, but the closer we get to the September unveiling, the more information reaches the web via unofficial channels.

The most recent tidbits come from super-reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who says on Twitter that iPhone 14 models are likely to come with improved front-facing cameras.

The hardware upgrades on this front will be massive, Kuo reveals, as Apple apparently wants to improve the FaceTime calls and live streaming capabilities of the entire lineup.

“The front camera of four new iPhone 14 models in 2H22 would likely upgrade to AF (autofocus) & about f/1.9 aperture (vs. iPhone 13’s FF (fixed-focus) and f/2.2). AF support and a lower f-number can provide a better shallow depth-of-field effect for selfie/portrait mode. In addition, AF can also enhance the focus effect for FaceTime/video call/live streaming,” Kuo said.

Four iPhone models on their way

Surprisingly, however, Apple plans to release these camera upgrades to all four iPhones launching in September.

On the other hand, the company is expected to make certain upgrades exclusive to its Pro models. One of them is the demise of the notch, as Apple could replace this controversial feature with a punch-hole design on the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max are likely to stick with a notch going forward, people familiar with the matter said, with the Pro models also expected to come with other upgraded specs, such as more storage.

All iPhone 14 models, however, will obviously be equipped with a new Bionic chip, though once again, people familiar with the matter suggested the Pro models could get exclusive upgrades on this front as well.

Of course, everything is still in the rumor stage, so take the info with a healthy pinch of salt for now.
