Reliable source claims this is very likely to happen

Everybody’s waiting for the upcoming iPhone 14 lineup due to launch in the fall, and while Apple has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the new-generation models, a lot of information comes from unofficial channels.

This time, it’s Mark Gurman from Bloomberg the one that comes up with some information on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

According to Gurman, the Cupertino-based tech giant is working around the clock on overhauling the lock screen. And one of the new features to make its way to users with the release of the next iPhone is support for always-on, something that Android devices have been offering for a very long time.

With an always-on display, the iPhone 14 will essentially be able to show essential information, such as the current time and a series of notifications, most likely in the form of icons, right on the lock screen and without the need for the entire display to light up.

Originally supposed to launch on the iPhone 13

Apple is already offering always-on on the Apple Watch, so most likely, the iPhone 14 will use a similar approach. Interestingly, only the Pro models will come with AOD, according to Gurman, though at this point, Apple is yet to make a final decision on whether the feature will get the go-ahead or not.

The feature was originally planned to go live on the iPhone 13 but never got to see the daylight.

“I’m told iOS 16 builds in future support for an always-on lock screen, something Apple was originally planning for last year’s iPhone 13. This would allow the iPhone to turn down the frame rate significantly on the lock screen and display quickly glanceable information—similar to newer Apple Watches,” Gurman says in the Power On newsletter.

“I’m told to expect the always-on mode as an exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, codenamed D73 and D74, if the feature ends up making the cut.”
