And this is why the price is likely to go up

Apple is projected to take the wraps off the new iPhone generation in just a few days, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back with some last-minute details about the Pro models.

Naturally, everybody expects the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max to come with the most notable improvements, as compared to the standard siblings, and Kuo claims the Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning such upgrades in terms of cameras.

More specifically, the iPhone 14 Pro models will sport 1.4µm sensors, whereas the models they replace are equipped with 1.0µm pixels. In practice, this means the new cameras would be able to take better pictures, especially in low light, as the sensors allow for more light to slip in when the shutter opens.

Public announcement on September 7

Kuo says the ultra-wide camera upgrades planned on the new iPhones are very good news for certain Apple suppliers, including Sony and Largan.

“I predict two iPhone 14 Pro models' ultra-wide cameras will upgrade to 1.4µm (vs. iPhone 13 Pro's 1.0µm). CIS (CMOS image sensor), VCM (voice coil motor), and CCM (compact camera module) have a significant unit price increase in this upgrade, with about 70%, 45%, and 40%,” Kuo says. “Other components' price increases are limited. Sony (CIS), Minebea (first VCM supplier), Largan (second supplier), and LG Innotek (CCM) are the significant beneficiaries of the ultra-wide camera upgrade.”

Apple will launch four different iPhone models, namely the standard iPhone 14, an all-new iPhone 14 Max with a 6.7-inch display, and the famous Pro models whose screen sizes wouldn’t change. The big news, however, is that both Pro models would give up on the notch for a punch-hole screen, therefore increasing the screen estate on both devices.

The official announcement will take place on September 7, and as per Apple’s typical schedule, the shipping should kick off on September 16.
