Display issue affecting mostly the iPhone 14 Pro Max

If your iPhone 14 exhibits some mysterious horizontal lines, especially when unlocking the device, you are not alone.

But what’s worse is that nobody knows for sure if this is a hardware or a software issue, with customers who took their iPhones to the Apple Store being told that the whole thing isn’t caused by a defective screen.

At first glance, the problem is rather widespread, with users who posted here on reddit explaining that all the tests ran by the Apple Store staff returned no hardware issues whatsoever.

On the other hand, it doesn’t seem like the horizontal lines are caused by the latest software updates either. Some people are tempted to believe that iOS 16.2 caused the problem, but the earliest reports on the matter surfaced online in early December when this latest version of iOS wasn’t yet live.

Apple most likely looking into reports

But at first glance, it doesn’t look like Apple knows what to do and what’s causing the problem.

“I’ve went to Apple twice, and they told me the same thing both times. They ran diagnostics both times, and everything came back fine, so they told me that it’s not a hardware issue. They said that it has to be a software issue. The second time I went which was yesterday (12/17), they reset my phone through their computer cos apparently it’s different than if you were to reset through the phone itself. The issue still continues. At this point, I’ve pretty much done all troubleshooting steps, and the issue still continues. Last step would be to get a warranty replacement,” someone says on reddit.

The company has so far remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the issue, but there’s no doubt an investigation is underway, especially given that the horizontal lines are becoming a lot more widespread these days.
