Apple’s new-generation iPhone lineup includes an all-new 6.7-inch device that’s essentially a larger version of the standard model.

Called iPhone 14 Plus, this model was originally expected to be called iPhone 14 Max, as many believed Apple was aiming for more consistency in its lineup.

And as it turns out, even the Cupertino-based tech giant was thinking this would have been the right choice. Evidence discovered by iCreate on Apple’s website shows that the company originally referred to the iPhone 14 Plus as the iPhone 14 Max.

In other words, there’s a chance that calling the device iPhone 14 Plus was a last-minute decision that Apple embraced before rolling out the official announcements.

iPhone 15 Ultra coming?

Apple praised the larger screen on the iPhone 14 Plus during its launch event earlier this month, explaining that it provides users with more content on a high-quality display.

“Our customers rely on their iPhone every day, and iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus introduce groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities. With the new, larger 6.7-inch display on iPhone 14 Plus, users can enjoy more content onscreen when browsing the web and even more text,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Both phones have a powerful new Main camera with a huge leap in low-light performance, advanced connectivity capabilities with 5G and eSIM, and the incredible performance of A15 Bionic, which helps enable even better battery life. All of this, tightly integrated with iOS 16, makes iPhone more essential than ever.”

Rumor has it that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could be going away next year, as Apple might rename it to iPhone 15 Ultra, once again as the company is aiming for more consistency in its portfolio and align the iPhone lineup with the Apple Watch.
