Launch schedule unaffected by lockdowns, it seems

Apple will take the wraps off its new iPhone generation in the fall of this year, and the latest information from the supply chain seems to suggest that at least one model could launch later than the rest of the devices.

The all-new iPhone 14 Max, which will come with a 6.7-inch display, is apparently behind schedule, with some sources claiming it could eventually enter the mass production only a few weeks before the device is announced in September.

In other words, Apple would have approximately one month to produce the necessary inventory for the iPhone 14 Max, as the start of sales is scheduled to kick off in September as well.

But according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 Max is very unlikely to experience a delay despite these production challenges.

No delay just yet

Kuo has also confirmed that Pegatron, which makes the iPhone 14 Max, has stopped its production due to the Shanghai lockdown, so the device is theoretically behind the schedule. But Kuo says this wouldn’t generate a delay, with Apple’s big challenge to come down to the demand rather than to inventory issues.

“My latest channel checks suggest that Apple has not changed the shipping plan for the iPhone 14 models since the Shanghai lockdown. iPhone 14 Max is running behind, but it's still under control currently, and suppliers can work overtime to catch up with the schedule,” Kuo explained in a tweet earlier today.

“I believe iPhone 14's challenges will come from the demand side instead of the supply side.”

Of course, it’s too early to tell if a delay can take place, but for the time being, Apple still has enough time to make sure its devices launch as planned. The announcement is scheduled to take place in mid-September, while the sales would kick off later the same month.
