New concept previews the upcoming iPhone 13 Pro

The upcoming iPhone generation due in September is likely to come with a series of major upgrades, and a new concept previews both the good and the bad changes that we could finally get on the new models.

First and foremost, it’s the portless iPhone. I’m going to file this under the bad upgrade section, simply because an iPhone without a Lightning connector means the end of wired CarPlay.

Most likely, whoever wants to use an iPhone with CarPlay and their head units do not support a wireless connection would pretty much refuse the upgrade to such a model, sticking instead with a traditional approach that still sports the Lightning port.

People familiar with the matter recently said Apple wouldn’t just go all-in on the portless iPhone, which means that the demise of the Lightning connector wouldn’t have overnight for all models. Apple wants to make the transition as smooth as possible, so only one model would embrace this big change at first, with the rest of the models to follow when the net generation is ready.

Always-on display

The concept embedded below also proposes a series of other new features that have already been discussed lately and which make sense on a modern iPhone.

Including the return of Touch ID, that is, as Apple is expected to bring back the fingerprint sensor, this time without a home button but integrated into the screen. Touch ID would thus use an approach that’s already available on other smartphones, including Samsung’s flagships.

iPhone 13 could also come with an always-on display, a feature that’s also been available for quite a while in the Android world and which shows essential info on the screen even when the device is locked.

More info about the upcoming iPhone generation should make the rounds rather sooner than later, especially as the new models are projected to go live in September.
