Data shows buyers mostly interested in expensive iPhones

Apple has decided it’s better to remain completely tight-lipped on everything related to iPhone sales, so it’s hard to tell right now if the new iPhone 11 generation is selling good or not.

But according to data shared by Counterpoint Research, iPhone 11 not only that’s a successful model, but it also helped Apple win the month of September altogether.

Sure, Apple dominating September mobile phone sales isn’t necessarily surprising given this is the launch month of new iPhones, but what’s more important is that the most expensive iPhones are also the ones recording higher demand.

The data shows iPhone 11 Pro Max had the highest demand, followed by iPhone 11 Pro and only then iPhone 11. In the United States, iPhone 11 is the most affordable version, starting at $699, down from $749, the starting price of iPhone XR, the model that it replaces.

As far as availability is concerned, it looks like Apple spammed the market with iPhone 11 units, while the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max had to deal with shortages in several markets.

The market analysis firm says iPhone 11 is very likely to become the star of the show, mostly because of its lower price.

S10 topping Android device sales

In the Android lineup, Samsung Galaxy S10 topped sales, but Counterpoint explains that volumes have been declining in the last months. Note 10 itself had what the company described as a “softer launch,” and the larger model was more successful.

“The Samsung S10 5G remains the top-selling 5G device in the US. Volumes remain muted as it is only selling in meaningful volumes in Verizon. Sprint sales and availability are lower than Verizon. AT&T is not yet offering the device to consumers outside of special case B2B customers. The carrier is only selling it to B2B customers in a very limited manner. T-Mobile is waiting on 600MHz support,” Counterpoint notes.

The market overall fell 4 percent in the United States in August, with sales dropping to 11.3 million for the month.
