The IPFire development team, through Michael Tremer, had the great pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability for download of the Core Update 93 for the open-source IPFire 2.17 firewall software.

According to the release notes, IPFire 2.17 Core Update 93 is here to update the ddns tool, IPFire's dynamic DNS update client, to version 008, a release that promises to be more robust against network errors on the server and path errors at the provider.

The above will be translated into frequent retries of updates. Additionally, ddns 008 fixes a crash that occurred when attempting to update the namecheap records, and introduces support for the DNSmadeEasy and joker.com provider.

"This update comes with various security fixes in the Squid web proxy, the dnsmasq DNS proxy server, and the Perl-compatible regular expressions library," says Michael Tremer. "You can support this project by getting involved into development, writing documentation, support fellow IPFire users or with your donation."

TRIM has been disabled for SSDs with buggy firmware

In order to prevent data loss, IPFire 2.17 Core Update 93 now disables the TRIM feature for SSDs (Solid State Drives) that have known buggy firmware. Also, there's various typo fixes in translations of the squid-accounting component, and the /etc/ipsec.user-post.conf file is now automatically added to the backup if available.

Furthermore, the Pakfire feature has been repaired and it will now correctly pull extra dependencies of add-on packages when the user updates its IPFire installation from an older version. The BIND 9.10.2-P3, Squid 3.4.14, Dnsmasq 2.75, Daq 2.0.6, Nettle 3.1.1 software, as well as the libevent 2.0.22 and libpcap 1.7.4 libraries are present.

Last but not least, the CUPS 2.0.4, nano 2.4.2, and make 4.1 add-ons have also been added to the new release of IPFire 2.17. Download IPFire 2.17 Core Update 93 right now from Softpedia.
