Once the 3D Touch-enabled iPhone 6s and 6s Plus get to their new owners, iOS 9 adoption rate should skyrocket

Apple has announced in a press release published today on their website that iOS 9's adoption rate has just passed the 50%. Also, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are scheduled to arrive in Apple's retail stores on September 25.

Customers can also get an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus by reservation in tax-free US states, in China, in Hong Kong and Japan.

iOS 9's 50% adoption rate has been measured using the App Store on September 19, 2015, which means that taking into account a day-to-day change of 5 to 6 percent (measured by various analytics firms such as Mixpanel), a 62 to 65 percent adoption rate on September 21 is not far-fetched.

Apple also suggests that customers should arrive early on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus' launch day, given the interest the new iPhone models have attracted after being announced and the number of buyers that flock to Apple's retail stores each time one of their new products is launched.

iOS 9 should get a sudden boost in adoption rate once the new iPhones get activated

As Apple's SVP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said, “Customer response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been incredibly positive, we can't wait to get our most advanced iPhones ever into customers’ hands starting this Friday.”

Furthermore, Schiller also stated that “iOS 9 is also off to an amazing start, on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history.”

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be available in gold, space gray, silver and rose gold finishes with no downpayment and 24 monthly payments starting at $27 and $31 in Apple's retail stores, on apple.com, from authorized resellers and select carriers.

Customers can also buy unlocked iPhones with a carrier of their choice only in Apple's retail stores, with the option to also get a new iPhone annually and AppleCare+ on the iPhone Upgrade Program. In this case, monthly payments start at $32 for the iPhone 6s and $37 for the 6s Plus model.
