14 DAY TRIAL // As per the typical release calendar, Apple is projected to release a new iOS version in September this year, with an early look at some of the changes to be provided in just a few months at WWDC.
As usual, the first beta build will land shortly after the event, but a report from iPhoneSoft claims to provide us with a bunch of details before the whole thing happens.
First and foremost, the report claims iOS 15 would come with a redesigned Control Center similar to the one currently available in macOS 11 Big Sur. In other words, Apple is allegedly planning to get a more consistent look of the Control Center across platforms, which at some level makes sense though a confirmation in this regard obviously doesn’t exist.
Touch ID coming back
In addition, it looks like Apple is working on enabling dual biometric authentication in iOS 15, and it’s all for a very simple reason: in addition to Face ID, a future iPhone model could also come with Touch ID once again.
Apple gave up on Touch ID in 2017 when it introduced the new iPhone X with facial recognition, so right now, the fingerprint sensor is only available on older models and on the 2020 iPhone SE.
But people familiar with the matter said earlier this year that Apple could bring back Touch ID on the iPhone 13, and the company could use an approach that’s already live on several Android devices. The fingerprint sensor could be embedded into the glass, so it wouldn’t require a dedicated button.
So the report claims Apple wants Face ID and Touch ID to work together, which would allow users to enable both features for extra security.
Of course, everything is still in the rumor stage, so a healthy dose of skepticism is definitely recommended.
