Fusion-io's part is the first enterprise solid-state storage solution to make the achievement

Fusion-io, a leading provider of enterprise solid-state storage products along with high-performance I/O solutions, announced today that its ioDrive, considered the most advanced enterprise solid-state data storage technology in the world, achieved the IBM ServerProven designation; it’s the first to do so. The IBM ServerProven program has been developed to offer customers additional product choices through performing compatibility tests on a range of non-IBM parts.

As many of you already know, the ioDrive is a direct-attached, PCI-Express-based storage solution featuring ten times the capacity per dollar as well as 100 times the capacity density of DRAM. According to reports, the technology allows having terabytes of near-memory-speed storage within each node. The drive offers a new perspective on cost effectiveness when systems requiring extremely large memory and high-performance I/O for applications are involved.

“Proven compatibility is vital to our customers,” said Don Basile, CEO of Fusion-io. “We are pleased at the continued momentum we see in our relationship with IBM, as is demonstrated by being awarded the company’s ServerProven designation. Fusion-io has achieved a number of industry firsts, including being the first to develop a truly PCI-e-based solid-state storage product with our ioDrive, and being the first to bring protective RAID technology to solid state with our Flashback protection. Fusion-io was also the first to work with IBM to achieve 1,000,000 IOPS, and we are now the first solid-state solution provider to achieve this important ServerProven designation from IBM.”

As lab tests indicate, the ioDrive is able to reach more than 100,000 mixed transactions per second (IOPS). Fusion-io and IBM partnered for the Project Quicksilver aiming at easily achieving over 1,000,000 IOPS through multiple ioDrives presented as a shared storage solution to accomplish RAID-like speeds.

“IBM is excited to work with Fusion-io on innovative technologies that bring value to our clients,” said David Weber, IBM Program Director, Wall Street Center of Excellence. “With these technologies, we expect to significantly improve the performance of specific applications such as database queries and business intelligence, as well as dramatically reduce power and space costs – all of which have become even more important in today’s challenging business environment.”

Capacities of 80 GB, 160 GB and 320 GB are currently available for the ioDrive.
