The device now sells with Windows 10 pre-installed

Intel Compute Stick is now available with Windows 10 pre-installed, so if you purchase the pocket PC these days, no additional work is required to get to the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system.

The Compute Stick launched earlier this year with Windows 8.1, and thanks to Microsoft’s free upgrade offer, anyone can upgrade the device to Windows 10 without paying a single cent.

But thanks to the fact that it now ships with Windows 10 pre-installed, everything is now easier, especially for beginners who don’t want to spend their time figuring out how to upgrade to the new OS (although the process is as straightforward as possible).

Liliputing writes that the new Intel Compute Stick with Windows 10 is already up for sale at some retailers in the United States, with pricing currently reaching $150 (€110). At the same time, the Windows 8.1 version appears to be available online for as low as $110 (€85), which means that you can easily buy this one and upgrade it manually to Windows 10 and save a few bucks too.

Similar tech specs

Even though the Intel Compute Stick now comes with Windows 10, the hardware specifications are exactly the same as before, so don’t expect performance to be significantly improved. In fact, we’ve heard a number of users claiming that the device feels even slower after the upgrade to Windows 10 (as we’ve told you in our Intel Compute Stick review here, performance is not in any way impressive).

So if you purchase the Windows 10 version, you get the same Intel Atom Z3735F Bay Trail quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of eMMC storage, with USB and HDMI ports for a limited number of peripherals.

Fortunately, improved versions of the Intel Compute Stick are already on their way, and rumor has it that significantly better hardware is considered without a huge price bump. There are no specifics regarding the release date, but early 2016 seems to be perfect timing for such a debut.
