The benchmarks are going to be interesting for this one

Intel has just announced the launch of their 8th generation Coffee Lake processors, bringing a few new architectures and a substantial increase in performance.

The biggest complaint about the previous generation of Intel processor, the Kaby Lake line, was that it didn’t really make much of difference. The added performance was operating in a small margin, which means that users couldn’t find a reason to upgrade.

The new 8th Gen Intel Core desktop processors will become available starting October 5, along with their latest platform, the Intel Z370 chipset. What’s interesting is that Intel seems to be pitching this new line of CPUs to gamers, content creators, and overclockers. The company is not usually that specific, but they seem to have good reason now.

A substantial increase in performance

Until the new CPUs are going to be benchmarked we’ll have to take Intel at their word. The company promises a 25% increase in performance when compared with 7th Gen Intel Core and a 200% difference in comparison with the 3-year-old PC.

Intel also announced a small change in the usual lineup, as their 8th generation Coffee Lake will also see the introduction of a 6-core Intel Core i5 desktop processor and a 4-core Intel Core i3. There is no information regarding pricing at this point, but it’s possible we might see a small increase.

As for the latest Z370 chipset, it already looks like a winner, at least on paper. It’s very likely that the platform will evolve and new iterations will soon arrive.

“For the platform, the new Intel Z370 chipset provides improved power delivery needed for the new 6-core processors to reach their maximum performance as well as enhanced package power delivery for overclocking and memory routing support. More than 50 new motherboard and system designs will be available from a variety of leading providers,” reads the announcement from Intel.

It’s important to mention that all of this performance increase does come with a caveat. The biggest of them, the 200% mentioned above, was measured in the benchmark more, in Playerunknown’s battleground (PUGB) with the following configuration: Intel Core i7-8700K processor (6C/12T) vs. Intel Core i7-4790K processor (4C/8T).
