14 DAY TRIAL // Instagram has just announced a number of new features for its mobile application, some that seem quite similar to what Snapchat has to offer. As such, Instagram introduced augmented reality face filters, a feature that Snapchat added not too long ago.
Instagram stated that it released eight face filters, which seem to work in the same way as on Snapchat. In addition, Facebook introduced some new camera effects in March, which can be used for enhancing images.
Specifically, Instagram users will be able to add virtual koala ears, glasses, butterfly crown or other effects to themselves in real time. The effects can also be added to photos and videos taken with Instagram.
In order to add face filters, users simply need to launch the Instagram app and access the camera section. After this, they can tap the new face icon in the bottom right corner and tap on a filter to check it out.
Instagram added new camera tools and an eraser for drawings
The filters can be applied to pictures taken with both front or back cameras, and they even work with Instagram Boomerang, the app for creating short videos that loop back and forth, and then they can be shared with friends.
Instagram announced that videos and pictures with face filters can be shared with friends using Instagram Direct or added to the user’s story. Aside from face filters, Instagram also introduced a number of tools for the camera, including the option to play videos in reverse and new hashtag stickers that can be customized in a number of ways and then added to the user’s story. Users will be able to tap on the hashtag sticker or text on the image and actually access the hashtag page or find related posts.
The editing section with drawing tools now welcomes an eraser brush, which allows users to remove any progress they’ve made on a picture or while free drawing. The features are available in the Instagram version 10.21 for iOS and the latest update for Android in the Google Play Store.
