Instagram seems to be working hard on improving user experience on its application, since it launched share sheet support for iOS users today. Instagram updated its application to version 8.2, which include an iOS extension for sharing photos and videos from iOS apps directly to Instagram.

This is a minor update but with major effects, considering that users will now be able to share photos and videos directly to Instagram on iOS, without having to launch the application beforehand. They simply need to open the image on their devices using various iOS applications.

The update allows users to write a caption to the photo or videos, but filters will only be available in the full app, according to 9to5Mac. The share sheet support also doesn’t allow users to add location or tag people in images.

Still, it’s a very useful feature since it removes the need to launch the Instagram application and browse for images to post. It streamlines the whole process of adding images to Instagram, but the downside is that editing features aren’t available in the new posting method.

The share sheet support works with multiple applications

Users can enable the new Instagram share extension by updating the application to the latest version, tapping on the share button in Photos or other similar iOS applications, tapping on the ‘More’ button and toggling Instagram on.

Afterwards, Instagram will appear in the share sheet where sharing photos is supported. The feature works in the default Photos app, Google Photos and other applications.

Apple introduced third-party extensions in iOS 8, back in 2014, but two years passed until Instagram finally implemented this feature on iOS.

Instagram has made some significant changes to its app on Android and iOS lately, culminating with the launch of a new redesigned logo and UI. All Instagram-associated applications got a new logo and the company will also be starting rolling out a new algorithm for rearranging posts in the feed based on relevant content.
