Instagram has announced it will increase the maximum length of the videos users can upload to its service from 15 seconds to a full minute.

The update already started rolling out for some users yesterday, and the rest will get it in the upcoming months when new versions of their apps will be available.

Additionally, for iOS users, the social network is also bring back the ability to create multi-clip videos from multiple movies in their movie roll.

When Instagram launched videos, it added the 15-second limit intentionally to offer more time than Vine. With this new update, the service is now offering double the size of Twitter videos, which are 30 seconds.

People don't like Instagram's future plans for a non-chronological timeline

Despite all of the good news, if you'd ask an Instagramer today what his opinion of the service is, most will immediately answer you that they don't want algorithmic updates, a new feature the service has been testing for the past few months.

Algorithm updates are non-chronological timeline updates, which the service displays at the top of your feed, based on what its algorithm considers you may be interested in. They are already available on Facebook, where users also have the option to switch back to chronological updates if they desire so.

Since Instagram has not provided any details on how these algorithmic updates will be implemented, most users, who have gotten used to the idea of a chronological timeline, started panicking about the service's planned update, which they fear Instagram will use to push more promoted posts.

On the other side of the spectrum, so-called "Instagram celebrities," bloggers, and companies fear their updates will show up at the bottom of everyone's feed, and most users won't get to see them.

In the meantime, Instagram has come out yesterday on Twitter and said that currently, the algorithmic update is only in testing, and there's no clear-cut decision if it will be rolled out, or even when.
