The people have spoken: Empire Magazine ran a poll in a bid to establish the 10 greatest movie characters of all times, and it ended up crowning Indiana Jones as the winner. Harrison Ford, who played it, actually appears twice on that list, because his Han Solo also made the cut.

Indiana Jones appeared in 4 movies between 1981 and 2008, though fans of the iconic franchise would probably prefer not to be reminded of “The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” the last one.

He will be making a comeback soon, with reports saying that a reboot is on the way, probably with Chris Pratt in the role that Ford made his. Ford might make a cameo too, but it’s safe to assume he won’t be doing any spectacular fighting by the time this happens.

Over 10,000 readers of the magazine voted, with the rest of the top 10 including as follows, in order: James Bond, Han Solo from “Star Wars,” Batman, Ellen Ripley from the “Alien” franchise, The Joker, John McClane from “Die Hard,” Tyler Durden from “Fight Club,” Darth Vader from “Star Wars” and The Dude from “The Big Lebowski.”

As you may have noticed, there’s not a single mobster / gangster type on that list, even though American cinema has several iconic characters from the genre.

“It’s not hard to see why [Indiana Jones is] so beloved,” Empire Editor Morgan Rees says, “handsome, heroic, capable, but he’s also got flaws - not only is he afraid of snakes, he also makes mistakes. You can relate to Indy. He’s human, not superhuman. There’s an element of knowingness and irony to him, too, that only heightens his appeal further. Plus of course, he really knows how to rock a Fedora.”

No one does it better than him, that much is true.
